Employment Lawyers in Toronto

Hum Employment Law is focused on workplace and employment law, professional regulation, human rights law, diversity issues, litigation and mediation. We practice in both Ontario and Quebec and offer legal services in English and French for employers and employees, plaintiffs and defendants. Our main office is in downtown Toronto, Ontario, with consultation offices in Markham, Mississauga, Richmond Hill and Scarborough. We also do consultations in London, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec.
We Perform Investigations.
Hum Employment Law has developed the insight to determine, from the onset, whether a full-scale investigation is likely to be the best route to resolution, or whether a solution can be found in an informal examination of the matter at hand. The objective is to satisfy all parties to a dispute, while ensuring that an isolated problem is not allowed to grow or become systemic.
We Are Experts With Shareholder Disputes.
Shareholder disputes occur when shareholders feel that their interest is undermined and seek to enforce their rights. Examples where shareholders may pursue legal action include:
- Disputes about share valuation and price;
- Oppression of minority shareholders; and
- Forced buyouts.
Hum Employment Law can assist you with shareholder disputes, and how to prevent them.
Employment Law is Our Specialty.
We know that the fair exchange of work for pay is just one aspect of a vast body of law that seeks to ensure equity and safety in the workplace. Drafting employment contracts and compensation plans is detailed and important work, but today’s clients demand much more from their employment law counsel.
Employment law is the expression of our shared values of prosperity, respect and equal opportunity.

Workplace Investigations
When an investigation is found to be the best course, we tailor a process that reflects the culture of your organization while maximizing our efficiency in gathering facts. We work as quickly as possible, applying discretion and sensitivity to get to the root of the matter. By establishing and maintaining a sense of calm, we help minimize disruption of day-to-day operations.
Litigation
As litigators, we believe that a strong knowledge of the law and experience in resolving disputes goes a long way to reaching successful resolutions of our client’s cases. Though a very small percentage of cases ever go to trial, where a negotiated settlement is not possible, we represent plaintiffs and defendants through civil lawsuits, through all stages: pleadings, discovery, mediation, and through the pre-trial, to trial.
Professional Regulation
Standards developed by regulatory bodies such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons or the Law Society of Ontario are industry specific and can vary widely. In regulatory matters involving complaints or discipline, we urge professionals to seek the counsel of qualified and experienced administrative and regulatory law practitioners.
